AEW Dynamite Review 3/15/23

Opening Promo

The show starts with MJF, and some Ladies coming to the ring. MJF gave a smooch to a couple of them. Then lays a big SMACK(Tongue Kiss) on the last one.

MJF is alway good TV. Mentions Shawn is better than Brett. Crows got liquid Hot, but were still into it. Announces tonight there will be a Re-Bar Mitzvah for his Birthday. Some jewish fellows come out, they dance, have a good time, I’M having a good time. The crowd is having a ball, And Jungle Boy comes out. I had a feeling this would be bad for him, and I wasn’t wrong.

Sure the crowd was happy to see Jack Perry(they always are) until he starts talking! He tries the “ive been here on all the shows, where have you been Max?” But the crowd remained silent, painfully silent during Jungle Boys promo, and the only thing, it seems, he was trained to do if he loses the crowd is to cuss. So he said shit.

In this time Sammy Guevara, Darby Allin, are in the ring now as well, the 4 “Pillars
Of AEW. (Future Stars) They all get their time to shine, and besides the Jungle Boy Stinker, it wasn’t a bad little promo to get over your young stars. Darby obviously MJF were the stars here. Jungle Boy needs some much work. MJF goes through CAKE.

Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta Vs Hangman, Evil Uno, & Stu Grayson

Excellent match. Nothing stands out. Evil Uno’s body is distracting, i’ll get over it. Not used to seeing him without the vest.

Juice Robinson Promo against Ricky Starks

I’m a huge fan of Juice playing the Cool Bad Man. He’s such a wacky dude I didn’t think it would work, but man is he convincing. Great promo.

Jade Cargill Vs Nicole Matthews to retain TBS title

I’m a fan of Jade Cargill, but she still needs work. The good news is I still don’t think the crowd has soured on her yet, even though her segments are Mid at best, there may be hope. She was looking for a Canadian to fight, and she found her. She wins with her move. Nothing special.

The real news is what happened after the fight. They have a big Canadian surprise and it's!...................Taya Valkyrie. Now, AEW crowds usually pop for ANYBODY, but not this time. It could be the house Mics not picking up the crowd, But from my home, there was 0 to know reaction for Taya Valkyrie. In the crowd's eye, Jade Cargill could do better.

The interesting thing to me is the fact AEW fans cheer for anybody. That leads me to believe that Tony Khan fucked up.. Because the crowd wanted a home grown star maybe, and got, Taya Valkyrie. Time will tell.

Ricky Starks Promo

I’ll objectively say I'm not a fan of Ricky Starks, all the time. Every promo is a sap story, and I don’t care to hear it. GO Juice Robinson.

We got a hype video for Jeff Jarrent Vs Orange Cassidy mixed with clips of Shazam, which was surreal.

SO if you listened last week we talked about Wardlow’s TNT title being stolen. Well I guess it was QT Marshalls doing, as was shown in a TMZ style bit. I think mixing reality in your storyline will end in disaster. That is all. Time already told. STOP IT!!

Will there be any wrestling on this wrestling show?

Orange Cassidy Vs Jeff Jarrett and crew for the International Title, Formally the North America Championship.

I want to get my thoughts out of the way first. Very good match. Jeff Jarrent for all his carney doings is a fantastic Professional Wrestler, and fuck if he doesn’t mix well with the new wrestlers. I’ve alway thought, even though they were a bunch of tough douche bags, old Memphis guys would do great in a Modern style. Lord Zoltan for AEW.

Having said that, Jarret looks great, and seeing him, at 54, outwork all your new guys, is not doing anything for them. They crowd bites on every “Look were going to make Jeff champ” But for how long? Personally, i’ll take a Jarrent match with everybody, every week over some of the nonsense. Orange Won. They pulled out all the carnie stops at the end of this one. Jarrett did all the bad guy trick and couldn’t get the 3, but laid down for one punch from Orange Cassidy. New respect for Jeff Jarrett. Till he starts a Gold company again Elite Ass Gold.

The Outcast came out Saraya, Ruby Soho & Tonu Storm.

The outcasts are supposed to be a less interesting NWO. I’d rather see them wrestle than talk. Next time around Ruby should be the mouthpiece for the whole segment. Toni Storm started to drown. Not her fault, this crowd for a week had been promised a match for the main event featuring two hometown boys, That may be the reason so many are drowning. They get run off by Britt Baker, Jaime Hayter, Skye BLue, Willow Nightingale, and Riho. This is a program with a lot of working parts that I would like to see work with each other, but, we’ll see.

House of Black vs the Elite Vs the JAS

Very good match, the crowd's reaction to Kenny and Jericho getting in the ring together made me literally jump out of my seat. House of Black wins. The story for me in the match was how many times Jericho was taking live rounds. I felt like every 5 seconds someone was smacking him in a head on accident. Kennys V-Trigger looks like it caught him in the mouth. When Kenny did the rise of the Terminator spot to the outside, it looks like Chris bounced his head off the guard rail, and so on. It ended with fuckery, and the Blackpool boys came out to smash Hangman. But wait! The Elite have his back. Show ends with a neat cliff hanger for fans.

The Ark (Show Series Recap)

When I remember my time growing up, it would seem science fiction was niche and hard to find. Not for me. As a regular, sit cross-legged in front of the tube kid in the 90s, afternoons on cable were a jungle of space, time travel, dragons, gods, robots, and chaos. I wasn’t chasing tail when I was 6; I was hunting for adventure, and the only place I could find it? Well, the backyard for one. Two, was cable TV.

Reruns of Galactica and Dr. Who, new episodes of Stargate (TV or movie), GODZILLA marathons, late-night anime, in '95! Star Trek: The Next Fucking Generation.

Over the years, good sci-fi has come and gone, but I feel the low-budget, Saturday afternoon flair of the 90s has run its course. How can a young person who controls human-like characters with a controller and has complete ethical freedom with them have an interest in cardboard sets covering D-list actors, spouting overly intellectual dialogue at 3 in the afternoon on a Saturday? They can't.

The Ark is a throwback to those shows and offers new takes on science when new dangers approach the ship set to land light years away from a dying Earth. It airs on Sy-Fy at 10 pm EST on Wednesday nights and the next day on Peacock. It stars...... Literally nobody you’ve ever heard of, and that’s the best part! Can’t tell you how many times I've gotten caught up in some good sci-fi madness, immediately taken out by Nic Cage's face. Or insert polarizing actor's names here____. But you will not have this problem with The Ark. If anything, because of the lack of acquaintance, the stakes can seem higher for the crew.

The setting is classic: a spacecraft designed to haul large amounts of humans light years away to a planet that closely matches Earth is damaged on the way. The crew is frozen in sleep when this happens, and the higher-ups who know how to run the ship and know how to live when they land on this new planet are blown up in the destruction. Now it’s up to the remaining crew to gather their knowledge and guide the Ark to its intended target. But shit goes wrong.

Of the new faces, my favorite \"Nu\" actor is Stacey Read (Don’t look her up; she's done nothing). She is the future person the liberals have been clamoring for. Time will tell if she or Zendaya will be the future model of the world. She appears black, with an accent that bends from Southern Belle, over to Kiwi, hikes back to Australian, lands somewhere in the Midwest with a Zimbabwean mother and British father. (I know how that sounds. Give her a listen and see if I’m wrong.) She’s a delight. (Side note: As I'm writing about Stacey Read, I've found it necessary to follow her on Twitter. Again, she's a delight.)

The premise is classic and the main draw for me. A bunch of semi-knowledgeable people in different fields need to put their differences aside for the good of the crew. Simple, easy storytelling.

There is a level of horror involved too. If you’re as claustrophobic as I am, the very thought of being alone in space with a bunch of folks who don’t know what they're doing is terrifying. Every mission on and off the ship brings a thread of dread, and it holds you for the 60 minutes, including commercials if you’re a slave to the cord. But there is shared joy. When the crew comes together to solve a complex problem,
